IUP sophomore Nafee Harris took over the top spot in the nation in the long jump and automatically qualified for the NCAA meet with a top performance of 24 feet, 10 ½ inches at the Penn State National Meet on Friday in State College.

Two other Crimson Hawks gained NCAA provisional qualifying marks on Saturday, including junior Leander Toney in the high jump and freshman Yoann Godet in the heptathlon. Toney cleared 6 feet, 10 ¼ inches in tying for fifth in the high jump while Godet had a total of 4600 points in finishing fourth in the heptathlon.

Godet, who came to IUP from France, had his best finishes in the seven-event heptathlon in the shot put, placing second at 38 feet, 4 ¾ inches and the pole vault, tying for fourth at 13 feet, 3 ½ inches.

Harris easily eclipsed the NCAA automatic standard in the long jump and will be seeking his third All-America honor in the event at the national meet in March in Albuquerque, N.M. He was fifth at the NCAA indoor meet last winter, and in the spring became the first IUP athlete to win a national championship in a jumping event at the NCAA outdoor meet.

Harris also won both the PSAC indoor and outdoor titles in the long jump and was named the conference outdoor field athlete of the year.
