Kevin Raymond, Maddy Outman and Tiffany Corle each finished in the top eight in their events while Raymond also ran a leg on a relay team that gained All-America status on the final day of the NCAA outdoor track and field meet at San Angelo, Texas. Raymond was the top finisher for the Crimson Hawks Saturday by placing fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 46.77. Outman was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:01.19, and Corle took eighth in the javelin with a throw of 141 feet, 6 inches. Raymond was joined by Hopeton Bailey, Tristan Taylor and Nafee Harris in finishing eighth in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 41.76. The quartet represents IUP's first All-America relay team since the mile relay team did so at the 1977 NAIA meet. Raymond is first athlete in IUP history to be All-American in the 400 meters and Outman became the first IUP woman to achieve that distinction in the 400 meter hurdles. Corle, who was seeded 18th entering the meet, is the fifth IUP woman to achieve All-America honors in the javelin and first since Heidi Miller in 1995. Russ Langley also competed in the javelin Saturday and finished 16th with a top throw of 183-0. Including Harris' national championship in the long jump on the opening day of the meet, IUP athletes accounted for a total of five finishes in the top eight. The Crimson Hawk men finished with 15 points to place 15th in the team standings, the highest of any PSAC school. |
