Kevin Raymond set school records in the 200 and 500 meter dashes to lead the IUP track and field teams at Kent State's Golden Flash Gala, its first meet of the 2009-10 indoor season.

Raymond also broke a 7-year-old PSAC record in the 500 with a winning time of 1:03.87 and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II meet in the 200 with a time of 21.67. Raymond was an outdoor All-American last season with a fifth place finish in the 400 meters.

The Crimson Hawks had three other runners finish in places nine through 11 in the 500, including United High School graduate Jared Long in ninth (1:07.04), Kenneth Wallace-Whitfield in 10th (1:07.35) and Cameron Morse in 11th (1:07.52).

Wallace-Whitfield was also fourth in the 1000 meters in 2:37.78, and Matt Celestin was third in the triple jump with a top mark of 45 feet, 3 inches.

The top finishers for the IUP women were a pair of ninth place finishes by Marissa Butler in the 1000 (3:14.40) and Liz Tepsic in the 300 (44.22). Ayanna LeBlanc was 11th in the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 8 ¾ inches.

Both IUP teams are back in action January 9 at the Penn State Relays.
