IUP junior Kevin Raymond has been selected the PSAC Track Athlete of the Week, an award encompassing the first two events of the indoor season. Raymond provisionally qualified for the NCAA meet in both the 200 meters at the Golden Flash Gala at Kent State in December and the 60 meters at the Penn State Relays last Saturday. At the Golden Flash Gala, Raymond posted a school-record time of 21.67 in the 200 to rank first in the PSAC and second in the nation. He also broke a 7-year-old PSAC record with a time of 1:03.87 in the 500 meters. In the first meet after the holiday break at Penn State, Raymond won both the 60 and 200, with his time of 6.85 in the 60 placing him first in the PSAC, tied for eighth in the nation and setting another school record. The time was just .10 away from the automatic qualifying standard. He also won the 200 in 21.82. Raymond is coming off a 2008-09 season which saw him win the PSAC title and earn All-America honors in the outdoor 400 meters with a fifth place finish at nationals. |
