IUP athletes won nine
events, including two by Brianna Liebold, at the PSAC West Challenge indoor
track and field meet Saturday at Slippery Rock.
Liebold won the long jump
(18-1) and the triple jump (36-1) while also scoring with an eighth place
finish in the 55 meters (7.96).
Also taking first place
finishes on the women's side were Maureen Newell in the mile (5:17.94),
Erica Hoffman in the 3000 meters (10:48.77) and Gretchen Colwell in the
weight throw (53-3).
The team of Newell,
Hoffman, Lauren Bauer and Stacie Stockard won the distance medley relay with
a time of 12:54.10.
Laura Blaesser gave IUP a
1-2 finish in the 3000, taking second behind Hoffman with a time of
11:01.11. Colwell was also fourth in the shot put (37-2).
Other top finishers were
Bauer, who was third in the 800 meters (2:33.31), Jaime Bauer, who took
second in the 5000 meters (20:50.61) and Jackie Youra, who was fourth in the
high jump (5-1).
On the men's side, Chris
Gardner won the 55 meters (6.36) and tied for first in the high jump (6-3).
Troy Litten had the top performance in the long jump (21-1) and was second
in the pole vault (15-0).
Nate Shelly was second in
the 3000 meters (9:07.48) and Kevin Bittner was third in the weight throw
(44-1).
In the team standings, the
IUP women were third with 119 points, trailing Slippery Rock (189.5) and
Lock Haven (147). The men were fourth with 116.5 points.
Slippery Rock won the men's competition with 168 points.
Both IUP teams are back in
action next Saturday with a meet at Bucknell.
