Erica Hoffman scored in the 3000 meters and the mile and four other IUP
athletes finished in the top eight on the final day of the PSAC indoor track
and field meet at East Stroudsburg.
Hoffman finished fourth in the 3000 with a time of 10:26.75 and had mark of
5:13.78 to take eighth in the mile. Maureen Newell was third in the mile,
crossing in 5:09.65.
Gretchen Colwell, who won the weight throw on Saturday, was third in the
shot put on Sunday with a best throw of 40 feet, 8 ¼ inches.
On the men’s side, IUP’s best chance for a first place finish ended when
Sean Strauman injured his leg early in the 800 meter race. Strauman had won
the PSAC title in the event at the previous six meets, including three
indoor and three outdoor championships.
Matt Celestin and Chris Gardner scored for the men’s team on Sunday.
Celestin was eighth in the triple jump (44-1 ¼) while Gardner tied for
eighth in the high jump (6-2 ¼). Gardner was fourth in the triple jump
on the first day of the meet.
Both IUP
teams were 10th in the team standings with Slippery Rock taking both
team titles.
