Day 3 Results and Team Scores

Pawel Glowiak won the PSAC title in the 100 backstroke for the third straight year and Jen Price set her third school record in as many nights to lead the IUP swim team's performance on the third day of the conference championship meet at Cumberland Valley High School.

Glowiak had a time of 50.61 to finish 1.23 seconds ahead of the field and win the fourth conference title of his career. In addition to his three titles in the 100 backstroke, Glowiak also won the 200 backstroke at the 2008 PSAC meet. Glowiak has earned All-America status twice in the 100 backstroke, finishing fifth as a freshman in 2006 and eighth the following year.

Price added to her school records and second place finishes in the 1000 and 500 freestyles by taking third place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.82. That mark lowered Heather Packard's school record time that had stood since 1999.

IUP added a second school record on Saturday when the men's 200 medley relay team of Glowiak, Jason Mohring, Dylan Mudlo and Jeff Gavin had a time of 1:34.45 in the prelims. The same unit then turned in a time of 1:34.74 in the finals to finish fourth.

In addition to Glowiak and Price, five other IUP swimmers reached the championship finals, led by Brittany Watkins who finished fifth in the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:39.31. Melissa Kucharczuk was sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.59) while taking eighth place finishes on the women's side were Kate Rowe in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.86) and Casey Beck in the 100 backstroke (59.91).

Mudlo advanced to the championship finals in the men's 100 butterfly and finished eighth with a time of 53.01. Jeremy Freedman (53.26) and Josh Huger (53.76) were 14th and 16th, respectively, in the same event. Mohring was ninth in the 100 breaststroke (58.63) and Shaheen was 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.48) followed one spot later by Anthony Termin (1:46.08).

Galit Regev was 11th in the women's 100 butterfly (1:00.53) and Bethany Johnston was 13th in the 200 freestyle (1:58.96).

In other relays, the men's 800 freestyle team of Gavin, Shaheen, Termin and David Donovan was fifth (7:04.04) and the women's 200 medley squad of Price, Rowe, Beck and Regev was seventh (1:50.12).

Both IUP teams are in fifth place with one night of action remaining. The men have 240 points and trail West Chester (577), Clarion (383), Shippensburg (355) and Gannon (252). West Chester also leads the women's competition with 438.5 points, followed by Clarion (405), California (342), Gannon (264) and IUP (222.5).
