IUP sophomore Jackie Hynson set a school record and posted an NCAA B cut time in the women's 200 backstroke to highlight the final day of the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Meet. The Crimson Hawk men and women both finished in first place. The men had 1,083 points to outdistance West Virginia Wesleyan (982) and Wheeling Jesuit (973). Rounding out the field were Fairmont State (379) and Penn State Altoona (303). The women had 1,039 points, more than 100 ahead of runner-up Lock Haven (900). The rest of the field included Wheeling Jesuit (650.33), West Virginia Wesleyan (571.66), Mansfield (436), Penn State Altoona (216) and Fairmont State (114). Hynson had a time of 2:06.12 in the 200 backstroke, .25 faster than the previous school record that had been held by Linda Wentz since 1998. The times of both Hynson and event winner Amanda Terray of Lock Haven (2:05.41) were faster than any previous time in meet history. Hynson also won the 200 butterfly in 2:14.73, followed by Kala Misavage (2:17.22). Two other IUP women were event winners and met the NCAA B standard, including Ashley McAteer in the 100 freestyle (53.28) and Ally Long in the 1650 freestyle (18:02.83). IUP men's winners were Dan Lumas in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.13) and Dylan Mudlo in the 200 butterfly (2:00.77). Walter Smith was second in the 100 freestyle (49.02) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Smith, Mudlo, Stephen Hoch and Gio Sherk was second in 3:14.54. The women's 400 freestyle relay team of McAteer, Long, Lauren Alshouse and Bethany Johnston was also second in 3:44.99. IUP is off until December 4-6 when it takes part in three-day Zippy Invitational in Akron, Ohio. |
