Jackie Hynson concluded an outstanding weekend of swimming at the Zippy Invitational with a win over a predominantly Division I field in the 200 backstroke while Stephen Hoch and Kala Misavage recorded NCAA B cuts on the final day of the three-day event. Hynson posted a time of 2:03.36 to best Division I swimmers from Xavier (Ohio), Akron, Illinois State and Ohio University in the A finals of the 200 backstroke. Earlier in the meet, Hynson was fifth in the 100 butterfly and earned NCAA A cuts in the 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly. Hoch had his second B cut of the meet with a time of 46.91 in the 100 freestyle in the leadoff leg of the 400 freestyle relay. He led IUP to a seventh place finish in the event along with Josh Huger, Dylan Mudlo and Walter Smith. Hoch also had a B cut in the 100 butterfly Saturday. Misavage had her B cut time in the 200 butterfly, finishing 10th overall with a mark of 2:10.28. Two IUP men's swimmers made A cut finals Sunday, with Mudlo finishing sixth in the 200 butterfly in 1:56.67 and Smith placing seventh in the 100 freestyle in 47.47. Dan Lumas was 11th in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.25) while Ally Long was 14th in the women's 1650 freestyle (17:50.70). The Crimson Hawks return to the pool January 6 when they compete in the Tampa Relays in Tampa, Fla. |
