Pawel Glowiak won the
PSAC title in the 100 backstroke for the second straight year, breaking
his own school record and making the NCAA A cut in the event at the PSAC
meet Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School.
Glowiak touched in a
time of 50.27 to lower his own school mark of 50.65 set a year ago.
He was also a member of the 200 medley relay team, along with Jason
Mohring, Dylan Mudlo and Jeff Gavin which finished second in 1:35.26 to
break an 11-year-old school record.
Mudlo also qualified
for an individual event final on Saturday and finished eighth in the 100
butterfly in 52.87. The men's 800 freestyle relay squad of Gavin,
Josh Huger, Luke Shaheen and Brad Smith was seventh in 7:18.57.
Brittany Watkins turned
in the top performance for the IUP women, taking third in the 400
individual medley in 4:43.61.
IUP also had two
swimmers reach the finals in two other events. In the 200 free,
Jen Price was fifth (1:55.64) and Melissa Kucharczuk was seventh
(1:57.87). In the 100 breaststroke, Kate Rowe was sixth (1:07.87)
followed by Tara Pitts in seventh (1:08.55).
Galit Regev (10th),
Jordan Myers (11th) and Abbey Doran (16th) were in the consolation
finals of the 100 fly, as was Casey Beck (12th) in the 100 backstroke.
The 800 free relay team
of Watkins, Rowe, Kucharczuk and Price was third (7:51.40) while the 200
medley relay team of Rowe, Regev, Doran and Erin Barbetta was seventh
(1:53.11).
The IUP women continued
to hold down third place with 288 points and the men are sixth with 209
points. West Chester and Clarion are first and second in both
competitions. The four-day meet concludes on Sunday.
