IUP senior swimmer Pawel Glowiak has been selected to receive the PSAC Top Ten award for the second consecutive year. The award, voted on by PSAC sports information directors, combines athletic and academic excellence and is give to a total of 10 athletes - five men and five women -after the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. Each of Top Ten award recipients is eligible for the Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year award which will be presented in June. Glowiak, a finance major from Gorzow, Poland, entered his final semester at IUP with a cumulative grade point average of 3.56. He also received the Top Ten award as a junior in 2008 and was on the dean's list in six of his first seven semesters. Glowiak earned a spot on the All-America team for the fourth straight year by finishing seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.37 at the NCAA meet. Earlier in the day he swam a 49.34 to break his own school record in the event. In addition to his All-America standing, Glowiak won the PSAC title in the 100 backstroke for the third time and also scored in the 200 backstroke with a third place finish and the 200 individual medley by taking 10th. He was a member of relay teams that finished third in the 400 medley, fourth in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle and fifth in the 800 freestyle. Prior to the 2008-09 season, Glowiak was an All-American in the twice in the 100 backstroke, finishing fifth in 2006 and eighth the following year as well as once in the 100 butterfly with a sixth place finish in 2008. Glowiak won a total of four conference titles, adding the 200 backstroke championship in 2008 to his three in the 100 backstroke. He placed in the top three in a total of 11 events during his career and holds the school record in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly and is a member of record holding teams in the 200 and 400 medley relays. |
