Dennis Collins, Abbey
Doran and Pawel Glowiak each won three events in the Crimson Hawks’ opening
swim meet. The women started their season off with a 115-65 win over Findlay
and the men’s team dropped a close meet, losing to the Oilers 110-101.
The women won every event
but one as Doran placed first in the 100 freestyle (54.92) and teamed with
Casey Beck, Kate Rowe and Jordan Myers to win the 200 medley relay
(1:55.05). The 200 freestyle relay (1:40.55) of Doran, Erin Barbetta,
Melissa Kucharczuk and Brittany Watkins captured first as well.
Winning second events for
the Crimson Hawks were Beck in the 100 backstroke (1:03.60); Kucharczuk in
the 200 freestyle (1:58.89); Myers in the 100 butterfly (1:02.56); Rowe in
the 100 breaststroke (1:08.51); and Watkins in the 200 IM (2:16.08).
Also winning events for
the women were Heidi Mitskavich in the 1000 freestyle (10:55.66) and Jen
Price in the 500 freestyle (5:20.31). Angie Lehman won the 1 meter diving
with a score of 172.50.
For the men, Collins and
Glowiak combined with Mike Cornman and Dylan Mudlo to win the 200 medley
relay (1:41.51), and Collins, Glowiak and Mudlo teamed with Jeff Gavin to
capture the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.01).
Collins also won the 200
freestyle (1:47.68) and Glowiak captured the 100 backstroke (52.80). Joe
Abbott won the men’s 1 meter diving with a score of 165.60.
Both teams return to the
pool next weekend as IUP and Ashland travel to Edinboro for a tri-meet.
