IUP Women Split with Edinboro and Ashland, Teams Combine for Four First Place Finishes (10/27/07)

IUP swimmers won four events in a tri-meet against Edinboro and Ashland.  The Crimson Hawk women defeated Ashland and lost to Edinboro while the men lost both meets.

Abbey Doran won the 50 freestyle (25.07) and was second in the 100 freestyle (55.86) and Melissa Kucharczuk touched first in the 200 freestyle (1:59.70) to lead the women's team performance.

On the men's side, Pawel Glowiak won the 100 backstroke (53.16) and was second in the 200 IM (1:59.52).  IUP also won the men's 200 freestyle relay, with the team of Josh Huger, Jeff Gavin, Luke Shaheen and Chris Crooks posting a time of 1:32.27.

Two other IUP women finished in the top three in individual events.  Kate Rowe was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.85) and third in the 200 IM (2:16.07).  Heidi Mitskavich was third in both the 500 freestyle (5:23.76) and 1000 freestyle (10:58.41).

Jen Price was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:58.11) and Brittany Watkins was the runner-up in the 200 IM (2:15.16).

Two other IUP relay teams took second place finishes.  The women's 200 freestyle relay squad of Doran, Watkins, Galit Regev and Erin Barbetta had a time of 1:40.33 and the men's 200 medley relay team of Glowiak, Huger, Mike Cornman and Dylan Mudlo had a time of 1:43.58.

The IUP women return to action on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. meet at California.  Both teams will host West Virginia Wesleyan on November 10 at 1 p.m.
