Jen Price, Abbey Doran and Pawel Glowiak Earn NCAA "B" Cuts on Day 1 of Crimson Hawk Invitational (11/15/07)

The IUP women’s swim team opened the Crimson Hawk Invitational with a 26-point lead over Saint Francis University, winning three events and placing in the top three in two other events.  

The meet also includes two other Division I teams – Mount St. Mary’s (Md.) and Youngstown State – and PSAC schools Lock Haven and Slippery Rock.

The 200 freestyle team of Abbey Doran, Galit Regev, Melissa Kucharczuk and Brittany Watkins started the meet off with a first place finish (1:40.53), touching out Saint Francis by .02 seconds.

Jen Price took first and swam an NCAA “B” cut in the 500 freestyle (5:09.33), and Heidi Mitskavich took fourth (5:18.03). Watkins won the 200 individual medley (2:12.88) as Kate Rowe took second (2:13.20).

Doran took second and swam an NCAA “B” cut in the 50 freestyle (24.69), and Galit Regev placed third with a time of 24.74.

The 400 medley relay of Doran, Rowe, Casey Beck and Jordan Myers placed third with a time of 4:06.67.

The IUP men’s team is the only team participating.  Pawel Glowiak swam an NCAA “B” cut in the trials of the 200 individual medley (1:56.16) and combined with Jeff Gavin, Dennis Collins and Chris Crooks to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:27.88).

Gavin won the 500 freestyle (4:56.64) and the 50 freestyle (22.57) and Dylan Mudlo won the 200 individual medley (2:00.81).

The men’s 400 medley relay team of Crooks, Mudlo, Collins and Mike Cornman took first with a time of 3:48.25.

The three-day meet continues on Friday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m., and concludes on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
