Sept. 20, 2008 The IUP men's cross country team tied Slippery Rock for the team title while the Crimson Hawk women finished second at the IUP Invitational held Saturday at the South Campus course. The IUP and Slippery Rock men both finished with 38 points to outdistance third place West Virginia Wesleyan, which had 57 points. Slippery Rock won the women's competition with 23 points, followed by IUP with 35. Nate Shelly was the top individual for the IUP men, covering the 8k course in a time of 27:23. Also finishing in the top 10 for the Crimson Hawks were Sean Strauman, who was fourth in 27:43, and Matt Gaudet, who placed fifth in 27:47. Pat Reagan of Slippery Rock won the men's individual title in a time of 26:34. In the women's 6k race, Slippery Rock had the top three finishers, led by Jennifer Harpp in 23:04. IUP took places four through six behind the trio of Maureen Newell (24:13), Lindsey Scheller (24:26) and Stacie Stockard (24:47). Emma Rybczynski was eighth in 25:01. Both IUP teams take next weekend off before competing in the Slippery Rock Invitational on October 4. |
