Check back for complete results The IUP women's cross country team finished in sixth place while the men were seventh in a field comprised of several nationally-ranked teams at the Slippery Rock Pre-National Invitational Saturday. With the NCAA national meet being held at Slippery Rock in November, Saturday's invitational featured 29 women's teams and 22 men's squads from around the country. The Crimson Hawk women had a total of 173 points, with three of the six teams finishing ahead of them ranked in the top 25 in the nation. Cal State Los Angeles, ranked sixth, tied Slippery Rock with 107 points. The Rock entered the meet ranked 25th. Wayne State (119), UC San Diego (125) and Dallas Baptist (127) were the only other schools ahead of IUP. Dallas Baptist was ranked 19th this week. The Crimson Hawks were one spot ahead of Bloomsburg, ranked 17th in the nation and just ahead of IUP in this week's East region rankings. On the men's side, IUP had 176 points, trailing UC San Diego (52), Lock Haven (69), Wayne State (97), Slippery Rock (98), Bloomsburg (152) and Millersville (160). Lock Haven is currently ranked 20th in the nation, four spots ahead of UC San Diego. THe IUP women were led by Maureen Newell, who finished 14th in the 6k race with a time of 23:04. She was followed in the top five by Stacie Stockard (25th, 23:25), Rachel Buckley (32nd, 23:38), Lindsey Scheller (44th, 23:56) and Emma Rybczynski (58th, 24:19). Matt Gaudet paced the IUP men in the 8k race by placing 10th in 26:05, four spots ahead of Nate Shelly who covered the course in 26:12. Sean Strauman (35th, 26:52), Ben Havko (54th, 27:28) and Josh Joson (63rd, 27:38) were also among the top five IUP runners. Both IUP teams are back in action Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. |
