The IUP women won the team title at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational while the men were fifth in the final meet for both teams before the PSAC championships. The women had 66 points to best the 14-team field, edging runner-up Northern Kentucky by seven points. Carnegie Mellon was third with 82 points, followed by Christopher Newport with 102. The men also competed in a field of 14 teams and totaled 129 points, falling just two shy of fourth place California. Carnegie Mellon won the race with 41 points, followed by Northern Kentucky with 55 and Duquesne with 86. Maureen Newell was the top IUP individual in the 5K women's race, finishing sixth overall with a time of 19:03. Three other IUP runners finished in the top 15, including Lindsey Scheller (10th, 19:23), Stacie Stockard (11th, 19:28) and Emma Rybczynski (14th, 19:58). Whitney Woodward ran 45 seconds faster than her time at the last year's meet and finished 30th in 20:40 to help offset the absence of Rachel Buckley, IUP's No. 3 runner, who missed the meet due to a death in the family. Matt Gaudet led the IUP men in the 8K race, finishing 10th with a time of 26:19. He was two places ahead of Nate Shelly, who covered the distance in 26:23. Rounding out the top five were Sean Strauman (30th, 27:15), Josh Joson (48th, 27:49) and Colt Mack (51st, 27:59). The PSAC meet will be held November 1 at Lock Haven. |
