Nov. 1, 2008 Matt Gaudet, Nate Shelly and Maureen Newell each earned spots on the all-conference team on the strength of top 20 finishes at the PSAC cross country championships Saturday at Lock Haven. Gaudet posted a time of 25:22 and Shelly crossed in 25:24 on the 8K course to finish 10th and 11th, respectively, while Newell recorded a time of 22:07 to place 16th in the women's 6K race. The IUP men were seventh of 15 teams and the women tied for fifth in a field of 16 teams. Edinboro won the men's title with 56 points, followed by Slippery Rock (65), Lock Haven (85), Shippensburg (100), Bloomsburg (149), East Stroudsburg (176) and IUP (187). Shippensburg took the women's crown with 70 points, three ahead of Slippery Rock, followed by Kutztown (115), Edinboro (118) and IUP and Bloomsburg (159). Following Gaudet and Shelly in the top five for the IUP men were Sean Strauman (37th 26:12), Ben Havko (63rd, 27:00) and Josh Joson (66th, 27:09). Chris Clark of California won the men's individual title in 23:56. After Newell on the women's side were Lindsey Scheller (22nd, 22:25), Stacie Stockard (26th, 22:33), Emma Rybczynski (42nd, 23:19) and Rachel Buckley (53rd, 23:45). Shippensburg freshman Neely Spence won the race in a time of 20:59. IUP will compete next Saturday at the NCAA Division II East Region meet at Slippery Rock. The national championship meet takes place November 22, also at Slippery Rock. |
