IUP freshman Hillary Mugun qualified for the NCAA men's cross country national meet by placing fourth at the Atlantic Regional championships Saturday at the Lamb's Creek course in Mansfield.

Mugun, from Nadi Hill, Kenya, had a time of 31:30 on the 10k course to finish behind only champion Ben Hahn of Edinboro, Nick Hilton of Lock Haven and Bryan Beegle of Shippensburg.

The top five individuals all earned berths to nationals, which will be held in two weeks in Evansville, Ind.

The IUP men finished in sixth place in the team standings with 202 points. Shippensburg won the title with 39 points, followed by Edinboro (56), Lock Haven (62), East Stroudsburg (110) and Bloomsburg (185).

The next five IUP runners behind Mugun were Josh Joson (41st, 33:34), Colt Mack (46th, 33:56), Clint Keller (52nd, 34:08), Ben Havko (59th, 34:22), Matt Rutt (61st, 34:22) and Zephaniah Koech (74th, 34:50).

The Crimson Hawk women finished in 10th place with 306 points on the 6k course after not behind ranked in the top 10 in the Atlantic Region all season by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Shippensburg won with 86 points.

Freshman Alyssa Taddie topped the IUP runners with a time of 23:08, good for a 39th place finish. She was followed by Bridget Connolly (45th, 23:18), Kelly Best (63rd, 23:47), Lauren Bauer (73rd, 24:01), Julie Johnson (86th, 24:28) and Jane Looby (88th, 24:34).
