Nov. 8, 2008 Nate Shelly and Matt Gaudet earned spots on the men's all-region team while Maureen Newell secured a berth on the women's side at the NCAA Division II East Region meet Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock. The IUP women finished in fifth place and the men were sixth. The women had 158 points, trailing Shippensburg (62), Slippery Rock (97), Kutztown (108) and Edinboro (110). With 176 points, the men were behind Lock Haven (51), Edinboro (71), Slippery Rock (79), Shippensburg (83) and Bloomsburg (148). The top 15 runners in both races qualified for the all-region team. Shelly finished 10th, covering the 10k distance in a time of 32:43. He was 14 seconds ahead of Gaudet, who was 13th. Rounding out the top five for the IUP men were Sean Strauman (28th, 33:37), Josh Joson (59th, 34:45) and Ben Havko (66th, 34:58). Newell was the top IUP woman, placing 15th with a time of 22:59 on the 6k course. Also finishing in the top 25 were Stacie Stockard (20th, 23:08) and Rachel Buckley (25th, 23:21). Lindsey Scheller was 44th (23:52) and Emma Rybczynski was 54th (24:16). Chris Clark of California won the men's race in 31:00, breaking the course record by 25 seconds, and Shippensburg's Neely Spence took the women's race in 21:09, outdistancing the field by 58 seconds. |
