IUP freshman Hillary Mugun became the school's first men's cross country All-American in almost 20 years when he finished in 33rd place at the NCAA Division II meet Saturday in Evansville, Ind.

Mugun had a time of 32:26.7 on the 10K course of the University of Southern Indiana to finish in the top 40 and gain All-America status. The last IUP men's runner to earn a spot on the All-America team was Eric Shaffer, who was 10th at the 1990 meet.

Mugun, a Kenyan, qualified for nationals as an individual when he placed fourth at the Atlantic Region meet two weeks ago. He was the first male runner from IUP to compete at nationals since Jorge Medina in 2006.

Reuben Mwei of team champion Adams State won the individual title with a time of 30:27.8.
