The IUP women edged Slippery Rock for the team title at the IUP Invitational held
Saturday at the South Campus Course. The Crimson Hawks finished with
27 points, one fewer than Slippery Rock.
IUP won its second straight team championship
after also taking first place at the Davis & Elkins meet last week.
The Crimson Hawk men, meanwhile, placed third. There were a total of
seven teams in both events.
Behind the top two teams were Geneva (80
points), Davis & Elkins (111), Carnegie Mellon (119), California (141) and
Point Park (147).
Slippery Rock swept the top five positions in
the men's race to win with 15 points, outdistancing Carnegie Mellon (44) and
IUP (105). Rounding out the field were California (108), Davis &
Elkins (133), Geneva (171) and Point Park (214).
Erica Hoffman was the top IUP woman, finishing
second with a time of 23:36. The Crimson Hawks also took spots fourth
through six with Maureen Newell (23:57), Laura Blaesser (24:35) and Stacie
Stockard (24:40).
Nate Shelly led the IUP men with an 11th place
finish with a time of 27:44. He was followed by Ben Shinksy (23rd,
28:20), Bobby Boston (41st, 29:09), Luke Snyder (42nd, 29:10) and Ben Havko
(46th, 29:26).
IUP is back in action on September 29 at the
Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State.
