IUP runner Hillary Mugun has been named the PSAC Freshman of the Year by the conference's cross country head coaches.

Mugun capped an outstanding debut season by finishing in 33rd place at the NCAA national meet in Evansville, Ind., with a 10K time of 32:26.7, fourth fastest among all freshmen and the second best by a PSAC runner, and became the first IUP men's All-American since 1990.

Mugun, from Nadi Hill, Kenya, qualified for nationals by placing fourth at the Atlantic Region meet with a time of 31:30 and was the first IUP men's runner to move on to the national meet since Jorge Medina in 2005.

Mugun was also third at the PSAC meet, the highest since Medina was second in 2005, and led the Crimson Hawks to a sixth place finish in the team standings.

Mugun's time of 31:30 at the regional meet is tied for the 11th fastest 10K time in school history while his time of 25:12 at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh is tied for 13th at the five mile or 8K distance.
