Paul Bingham tripled in two runs to break an sixth inning tie, capping a three-run rally and giving IUP a 4-2 victory over Columbia Union in the second game of a doubleheader Friday at Owen Dougherty Field.

The Pioneers scored three times in the eighth inning and held on for a 9-8 win in the first game. IUP is 21-23 on the season and Columbia Union is 18-16.

The Crimson Hawks were eliminated from the PSAC playoffs with Lock Haven's sweep of Gannon and will finish their season with a four-game PSAC crossover series with Bloomsburg beginning with a Saturday 1 p.m. home doubleheader.

Columbia Union took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth of the nightcap when Graym Kasko scored all the way from second on a fly ball to deep center. But the Crimson Hawks rallied for three in their half of the inning to salvage the split.

Kyle Stryker singled to lead off the inning and IUP loaded the bases on a walk and error. Jamie Smith hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game and Bingham put the Crimson Hawks in front with his three-base hit to right center.

Bingham also had an RBI double in the first inning to give IUP an early 1-0 lead, and Columbia Union tied it in the sixth. Josh Hildebrand worked two innings in relief, allowing one hit and one unearned run to gain the victory. Starter Craig Hibell allowed three hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts in five innings.

In the first game, IUP took a 2-0 lead in the first but Columbia Union scored six times in the third. The Crimson Hawks slowly chipped away, scoring four times between the fourth and sixth innings to tie it up.

Mark Woleslagle had an RBI single in the fourth and Ryan Mostyn drove in a run with a single in the fifth. Still down by two heading into the sixth, Sean Foor homered to lead off the inning and Bingham and Bainbridge had consecutive doubles to tie the game at 6.

A two-run double by Robert Arvanites highlighted the three-run Columbia Union eighth. In the bottom of the inning, Bingham slammed a two-run homer but Casey Cosgrove came in to strike out Bainbridge and Jeff Lluberes to close out the Pioneer win.

Bainbridge had three doubles in the first game and Bingham scored three times, finishing the doubleheader with four hits and five RBIs.
