IUP senior centerfielder Shane Melhorn has been named to the Golden Glove Atlantic Region second team, an award presented by Rawlings and the American Baseball Coaches Association. In two seasons at IUP, Mehlorn established a reputation as one of the top fielding outfielders in the PSAC with his combination of range and strong throwing arm. He recorded 204 putouts and had five outfield assists while posting a fielding percentage of .959. Melhorn played in 95 games with 90 starts and had 87 hits, 16 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 81 runs scored and 58 RBIs. He stole 21 bases in 24 attempts, including a perfect 13-for-13 as a junior when he helped IUP win a school-record 36 games and reach the PSAC playoffs for the first time in 10 years. Melhorn is tied for 11th in school history in stolen bases, tied for 14th in home runs and 15th in runs scored. |
