IUP head baseball coach Jeff Ditch has announced that current assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Anthony Rebyanski has been promoted to assistant head coach. Rebyanski will continue to serve as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. "Anthony is IUP baseball," commented Ditch. "He grew up locally, was a student-athlete here and gives endless amount of time and energy to the IUP baseball program. Our team has benefitted from his presence each and every day." Rebyanski joined Ditch's staff in 2006, and his coaching and recruiting efforts resulted in the best three-year improvement in all of NCAA college baseball, as IUP improved from 10 wins in 2006 to 36 wins in 2008. "Anthony has allowed our program to flourish with his work ethic, knowledge, loyalty and genuine IUP commitment," added Ditch. "He has reached the point now where he is either directly responsible or assists with every single aspect of our program both on and off the field." As recruiting coordinator, Rebyanski's most recent success is indicated by the 12 talented student-athletes signed on November 11 to national letters of intent. Rebyanski, a graduate of Indiana High School, pitched for IUP from 2002-05 and his name appears throughout the school's record book, including fourth in career strikeouts with 163 and tied for third with 30 starts. He is also seventh in innings pitched (174.1), tied for eighth in total appearances (36), tied for 10th in complete games (13) and tied for 14th in wins (12). He was named the PSAC West Rookie of the Year in 2002 and honored as the inaugural IUP Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2005 after posting a 3.14 cumulative grade point average. He earned his bachelor's degree in communications media from IUP in August 2006. Following his playing career at IUP, Rebyanski pitched professionally for the Windy City Thunderbolts in the independent Frontier League. The Thunderbolts have won two consecutive Frontier League championships, including a league-best record 68-28 in 2007. His combined stats from the 2007 and 2008 seasons include 79 appearances, six wins and a save while striking out 101 batters in 80.1 innings pitched. |
