Gerald Brooks scored 19
points, Darryl Webb added 16 and Adeniyi Amadou tied his career high with 16
rebounds to lead IUP to a 63-48 win over Lock Haven in the regular season
finale Saturday night at Memorial Field House.
With the win, the Crimson
Hawks 13-14, 5-7 PSAC West) ended a five-game losing streak and earned sole
possession of fourth place in the division and will travel to Edinboro for
the opening round of the PSAC playoffs on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
IUP actually wrapped up a
playoff spot earlier in the day when Slippery Rock lost in overtime to
Clarion, but finished one game ahead of The Rock in the PSAC West standings
with its win over Lock Haven (2-24, 2-10).
Edinboro and California
both finished 11-1 in the PSAC West, but the Fighting Scots won the
tiebreaker to gain the No. 1 seed in the tournament. California will
host Clarion in the other Western Division quarterfinal game on Tuesday.
In the victory over the
Bald Eagles, Brooks hit 9 of 10 field goal attempts and IUP shot 51.1
percent overall, including 62.5 percent during the first half. The
Crimson Hawks also made 10 of 25 from behind the 3-point arc for 40 percent
accuracy.
Amadou, who was playing his
final home game at Memorial Field House, matched his career best of 16
boards set in IUP's previous game on Wednesday at Shippensburg. He
ended the year with an average of 8.2 per contest to rank in the top 10 in
the PSAC.
The IUP defense held Lock
Haven to 33.3 percent shooting and limited Billy Arre, the leading scorer in
the PSAC, to 4 of 15 shooting and 10 points below his season average of 21.0
per game.
The Bald Eagles scored only
15 points in the second half, making just 4 of 26 shots from the field.
The Crimson Hawks also held a whopping 40-17 advantage on the glass.
