Mike Campolo is in his eighth season on the IUP staff and fifth coaching the offensive line. Four years ago, he added the title of running game coordinator. Campolo was in charge of the running backs from 2002-04.

Campolo has molded offensive lines into units that have paved the way for IUP to put up huge numbers. A year ago, with three first-time starters on the offensive line including true freshman Tony DiPasquale, the Crimson Hawks averaged 38.5 points and 442.1 yards per game to rank first and second, respectively, in the PSAC in those categories. The line allowed IUP quarterbacks to be sacked only eight times all season.

His running attack featured one of the top ball carriers in the nation. Tobias Robinson led the PSAC and ranked eighth in the nation with an average of 120.3 rushing yards per game.

One of his pupils, Jim O'Rourke, was named to several all-region teams in 2008. A starter since his true freshman season, O'Rourke has developed into one of the top players in the nation at his position.

From 2004-06, Campolo worked closely the with Jason Capizzi, a consensus All-American in 2006 and a free agent signee by the Pittsburgh Steelers after the April 2007 NFL draft. Capizzi was a member of the Steelers roster when they defeated the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl last February. Rory Thomas, a senior on the 2007 Crimson Hawk team, was selected to play in the Cactus Bowl, the Division II all-star game.

Campolo was a four-year letterman for IUP from 1992-95, playing in 47 of 48 games and rushing for 984 yards and 20 touchdowns, including four in the playoffs in 1993 as IUP advanced to the national championship game. He ranks 12th in IUP history in rushing touchdowns.

As a senior in 1995, Campolo was voted captain and selected Most Inspirational Player by his coaches and teammates.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Campolo was the running backs coach at Duquesne the previous three seasons. He served in the same capacity for one season each at Serra Catholic High School in 1997 and Bethany College the following year.

Campolo is a 1996 graduate of IUP with a bachelor's degree in communications media. His son, Vito, is three years old.
