Former IUP player and student assistant coach Ryan Eden returned to his alma mater as wide receivers coach in the summer of 2009.
Eden was the assistant director of football operations at Villanova the previous two years. He maintained the day-to-day operations of the Wildcat football program and had specific responsibilities in the areas of recruiting, academics and game plan development. He also served as assistant director of the Andy Talley Villanova Football Camp.
After graduating from IUP in 2004 with a degree in sports management, Eden joined the football staff at Mansfield. He started as the wide receivers coach for the Mounties before taking over as offensive coordinator for the 2005 season.
In addition to his coaching duties, Eden was also the video coordinator and recruited in Maryland, the District of Columbia, central Pennsylvania and parts of New York.
During his time as offensive coordinator, Mansfield boasted one of the most improved attacks in the PSAC and featured record setting tailback Poohbear McNeal, who transferred to IUP for the 2007 season after the Mounties dropped their Division II football program.
Eden came to IUP as a walk-on quarterback and worked with the scout team in his only season on the active roster. He spent the next three years as a student coach, serving as assistant to the offensive coordinator as well as the video and quality control coordinator.
