D.K. McDonald joined the IUP coaching staff in January 2006 upon the hiring of Lou Tepper as head coach. McDonald coaches the defensive backs at IUP after serving in the same capacity under Tepper at Edinboro from 2003-05. His focus is on cornerbacks and free safeties.

One of McDonald's IUP cornerbackers, 2009 senior Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, has developed into one of the top players at his position. Owusu-Ansah led the PSAC with eight interceptions last season and was second nationally with an average of 0.80 per game to earn All-America honors. He has worked his way onto the short list of Division II players that NFL scouts are actively looking at in advance of the April 2010 draft.

During his time as a coach at Edinboro, McDonald played a key role in developing some of the finest defensive units in Division II football. In 2005, the Fighting Scots were No. 1 in the nation in scoring, rushing and total defense and third in passing efficiency defense.

McDonald was a four-year starter at cornerback at Edinboro from 1997-2000. He was a first team All-PSAC West selection as a junior when he finished with 29 tackles and a team-high 11 pass breakups.

A native of Orrville, Ohio, McDonald had career totals of 108 tackles, four interceptions and 34 breakups. His senior season in 2000 was the first as head coach at Edinboro for Tepper.

A 2001 graduate with a bachelor's degree in history, McDonald was an Edinboro scholar-athlete all four years. He served as the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was an Erie area representative for that organization after his graduation.
