IUP broke the school record for points in a game in an 80-14 victory over Cheyney in its season opener Saturday at George P. Miller Stadium.

The 80 points broke the previous mark of 75 set against Northwood in 1968. The Crimson Hawks found the end zone 11 times, including three touchdown passes by Andrew Krewatch, two scoring rushes each by Poohbear McNeal and Kareem Dutrieuille, two fumble returns and an 81-yard kickoff return by Akwasi Owusu-Ansah.

The kickoff return by Owusu-Ansah was the first such touchdown for IUP since Charles Peoples had a 98-yard score against Edinboro in 1990.

Krewatch completed 13 of 20 passes for 261 yards in his first appearance since starting all 10 games as a true freshman in 2005. He hit Mychal Skinner on a 77-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and also found Ken Witter (19 yards) and Dan Pickens (two yards) in the same period as IUP took a 42-7 lead into intermission.

Witter caught four passes for 91 yards while Anthony Rodriguez also grabbed four receptions for 62 yards.

McNeal, making his IUP debut after rushing for 3,601 in three seasons at Mansfield, carried 13 times for 89 yards, scoring from 18 yards out in the first quarter and again on a two-yard run midway through the third.

His total was part of a 217-yard rushing day by the Crimson Hawks, who outgained Cheyney by a 478-158 margin in total offense.

Pat McDanel had 83 yards and wrapped up the scoring on a 16-yard run in the final minute. Dutrieuille gained 49 yards on the ground and had touchdown runs of seven and 13 yards.

IUP opened the scoring with 9:06 left in the first quarter when Donta Green forced a fumble, and Mike Reid returned it 45 yards for a touchdown. It was Reid's third fumble return for a touchdown in the past eight games. Reid later added an interception which he returned 14 yards.

Ken Evans also scored a touchdown on a 14-yard fumble return after a bad snap on a Cheyney punt attempt.

The Crimson Hawk defense recorded four sacks of Cheyney quarterback Bo Thompson, including three by linebacker Carliss Jeter, and held the Wolves to minus 4 yards rushing.

Thompson completed eight of 23 passes for 162 yards, threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Curry and accounted for the second Cheyney touchdown on a three-yard run on the final play of the third quarter.

Charles Johnson was on the receiving end of four Thompson completions for 100 yards. Jesse Phillips rushed five times for a team-high 28 yards.

Dale Boston led the IUP defense with nine tackles, including eight solo stops, forced a fumble and also recovered one. Terrence Jackson and Jeff Vaughn added eight tackles while Cosie Spigelmeyer added a sack.

Justin Allen led all tacklers with 14 for Cheyney and shared a sack with Eddie Dordies. Brandon Hawkins was credited with 10 tackles.

IUP plays its first road game of the season next Saturday at East Stroudsburg. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Cheyney plays its home opener against California next Saturday at 1 p.m.
