IUP senior tight end Dan Pickens has been selected to the Daktronics Division II All-America second team and the Don Hansen Football Gazette third team for the 2007 season. Pickens is the first IUP tight end to achieve All-America status since Bill Thompson was named to the Associated Press third team in 1984. It marks the second straight season that the Crimson Hawks have had a player chosen to the Daktronics team, with offensive tackle Jason Capizzi named to the first team a year ago. Pickens (Bridgeville/South Fayette) made 47 catches for 502 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2007 season, ranking second on the team in receptions and touchdowns. He led all PSAC tight ends with an average of 4.00 catches per game. Pickens had a career-high eight receptions, including a touchdown, and matched his season best with 66 receiving yards against Northeast Region champion California. The previous week against Slippery Rock, he had six catches, also accounting for 66 yards. In his four seasons at IUP after transferring from Pitt, Pickens played in 36 games and had career totals of 75 receptions for 884 yards and nine touchdowns. He helped IUP win 29 of 42 games, including a pair of PSAC West co-championships, and earn a bid to the NCAA playoffs this season when the Crimson Hawks advanced to the second round. |
