IUP shot a team score of 652 to open its spring season with a second place finish at the St. James Plantation Invitational at The Founders Club in Southport, N.C. Charleston won the team title but the Crimson Hawks bested all three schools from the PSAC at the two-day tournament. IUP was eight shots ahead of Clarion and 13 better than California. Leo Acklin was the top IUP individual finisher, tying for fourth with a score of 157 on the par 72 course. Nic Milito tied for sixth at 161 and Cory Stelick was alone in 10th at 162. Brad Boyle, Joe Pelland and Ryan Kennedy all shot a 165 to tie for 14th. Eric Smith of California was the medalist at 10-over par 154, one shot ahead of James Leonard of Charleston. IUP entered the spring season ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Atlantic Region. The Crimson Hawks won four of six tournaments in the fall, including their second straight PSAC championship. The spring season includes the NCAA Super Regional May 4-6 in Daniels, W.Va., and the NCAA national tournament May 19-22 in Blaine, Wash. |
