Despite missing two of its top players, IUP still finished second in a field of 15 teams at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational which wrapped up Tuesday at the Hartefeld National Golf Club in Avondale. The Crimson Hawks had a team score of 612 on the par 72 course to finish five shots behind team champion Adelphi. IUP was six ahead of the host Lightning and eight in front of Millersville. West Chester, the only other PSAC team in the field, placed 13th. Leo Acklin led IUP individually with a four-over par score of 148, tying Wes Hood of Goldey-Beacom for second place. The duo was three shots behind medalist Brant Kummerfeld of Adelphi. Cory Stelick tied for 11th at 153, followed by Ryan Kennedy in a tie for 17th at 155 and Brad Boyle in a tie for 19th at 156. The Crimson Hawks only had four golfers available instead of the usual five with No. 1 player Gavin Smith as well as Nic Milito out with injuries. IUP returns to action April 13-14 when it hosts the IUP-Cecil Spadafora Invitational at the Indiana Country Club. |
