IUP coasted to its third win of the fall season with a 19-shot victory over host California in the Vulcan Invitational played Sunday and Monday at the Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

The Crimson Hawks had a team score of 581 and had the best score in both rounds, including a 283 on Sunday and 298 on Monday. California edged out Clarion by four shots to take second place in the 13-team field.

The four IUP scorers all finished in the top 10, led by Ryan Kennedy who tied for second with a one-over par score of 144. Leo Acklin and Brad Boyle tied for fourth at 145 and Gavin Smith was another two shots back and tied for eighth.

Boyle had a first round score of 69, an 18-hole score topped only by medalist Jared Schmader of Clarion who had a 66 on Sunday and finished with a four-shot win over Kennedy and Keith Mazurek of McDaniel College.

IUP freshman Sean Sweithelm shot a two-day score of 151 and tied for 16th. Fellow first year player Derek Baker tied for 20th at 152.

IUP also won the Burger King/Ohio Valley Invitational and Hal Hansen Invitational earlier this season. The Crimson Hawks play their final event prior to the PSAC tournament this Saturday and Sunday at the Mercyhurst Invitational.
