IUP rallied from one-shot down after the first round to win its fourth tournament of the fall season, a six-stroke victory over Daemen at the Mercyhurst Invitational which wrapped up Sunday in Erie. The Crimson Hawks finished with a team score of 588 to finish ahead of Daemen in the nine-team field. IUP trailed Daemen and Millersville after the first 18 holes before shooting a 3-over par score of 291 Sunday, seven shots better than the rest of the field. Brad Boyle won medalist honors with a score of 2-under par 142, one shot ahead of Tim Martins of Le Moyne. Boyle had rounds of 73 and 69, with his second day score the second best round of the tournament. Ryan Kennedy finished fifth with a score of 146. Leo Acklin and Sean Sweithelm were both at 150, good for a tie for 11th, and Derek Baker tied for 35th at 157. IUP also won the Burger King/Ohio Valley Invitational, Hal Hansen Invitational and Vulcan Invitational earlier this season. The Crimson Hawks head to Hershey Saturday and Sunday in quest of their third consecutive PSAC championship. |
