IUP golfer Gavin Smith will be featured Saturday when CBS televises its recap of the NCAA spring sports championship season. The one-hour program begins at 2 p.m. Smith won the Division II title at the NCAA tournament in May at the Loomis Trail Golf Course in Blaine, Wash. He birdied the first playoff hole to edge Kelbi Lee of Ferris State and give IUP its first NCAA champion and first overall since Rick Hrip won the NAIA title in 1968. The winning putt as well as an interview with Smith will be part of the CBS segment. Smith was named the PSAC Golfer of the Year for the second straight season and a PING first team All-American. He received the Arnold Palmer Award as the Division II individual medalist. CBS programming is available on KDKA Channel 2 in Pittsburgh and WTAJ Channel 10 in Altoona. |
