IUP rallied from a nine-shot deficit after one
round to take the team championship at the Vulcan Invitational and claim its
second event title of the fall season.
The Crimson Hawks enjoyed an 18-shot
turnaround on Sunday and finished with a score of 589, nine strokes ahead of
Millersville and 12 ahead of host California.
Rounding out the field was Ohio Valley (630),
West Chester (632), Seton Hill (654) and West Virginia Teach (658).

freshman Leo Acklin (pictured with trophy), playing as an individual, had
rounds of 71 and 73 to finish at two-over par 144 to win medalist honors.
Acklin finished one shot ahead of teammate Ryan Kennedy.
Kennedy tied for the best round of the
tournament with a score of 69 on Saturday. Gavin Smith tied for sixth
(148), Cory Stelick tied for eighth (149), Nic Milito tied for 10th (150)
and Joey Reed tied for 18th (156).
IUP is off this week before competing in the
PSAC tournament October 20-21 in Hummelstown. The Crimson Hawks will
be seeking their seventh conference title in the past 11 years but first
since 2004.
