Gavin Smith shot a four-under par 68 to take the individual lead while teammate Leo Acklin fired a 73 to stand in third place as IUP took the lead following the first day of the PSAC tournament at Hummelstown.

The Crimson Hawks, seeking their seventh conference title in the past 11 years and first since 2004, hold an eight-shot lead over Clarion.  The California women's team, competing in the combined tournament, are third with a score of 313.

Trailing the top three are Millersville (323), West Chester (324), the California men (325), Kutztown (344) and the West Chester women (399).

Golf is the only sport in which both men and women compete for the same championship.

Nic Milito and Ryan Kennedy both had scores of 80 to tie for 15th while Cory Stelick is tied for 25th with a score of 86.

The two-day tournament at the Wrendale Golf Club concludes on Sunday.  The season then resumes in the spring, including the NCAA East Regional and national tournaments.
