Five IUP players scored in double figures to lead the Crimson Hawks to an 88-59 victory over Lock Haven and extend their winning streak to four overall while remaining perfect in the PSAC West. IUP (10-5, 3-0) has won five in a row over the Bald Eagles and is undefeated in division play through three games for the third consecutive season. The game was the second of a three-game PSAC West trip that concludes Saturday at undefeated and No. 4 Gannon. Hillary Shope hit 8 of 11 from the field and scored 18 points to pace IUP. Eryn Withers hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range and scored 14 points followed by Lacey Claar and Sarah Pastorek with 13 and Katelyn Marshall with 11. Claar connected three times from 3-point range and increased her career total to 129 to move past Jess Conner for second place in school history. As a team, the Crimson Hawks shot 56.1 percent from the field and 11 of 19 3-pointers and 13 of 15 from the free throw line. Withers led IUP with eight rebounds, and the Crimson Hawks held a 35-25 advantage on the boards. Kierstin Filla dished out five assists and has 382 in her career, six shy of passing Megan Woodall for second in the school career record book. Julie Lozon added four assists, and Claar had three assists and three steals. Kacie Hershey led Lock Haven (5-9, 0-3) with 17 points and five rebounds. No other Bald Eagle scored in double figures. Lock Haven actually led by as many as eight at 14-6, helped by seven IUP turnovers in the opening six minutes. But that advantage didn't last long, and the Crimson Hawks eventually took the lead for good at 24-21 on a 3-pointer by Claar with 7:19 left in the half. Shope and Marshall buried shots from behind the arc just 33 seconds apart to up the lead to 30-21, and another 3-pointer by Withers gave IUP a double digit lead at 33-23 with 3:23 to go before halftime. The Crimson Hawks then made all eight of their free throws, including four by Filla, and got baskets from Claar and Shope to cap a 24-3 run at the end of the first half, giving IUP a 45-24 lead at the break. Shope and Claar both scored 10 points in the opening 20 minutes. The second half was more of the same, with the lead never dropping below 18 points and climbing as high as 32 in the final minute. After finishing its road trip at Gannon, IUP returns home to face California a week from tonight at 5:30. |
