IUP freshman forward Sarah Pastorek has been named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week after coming up with a pair of game-winning shots in division victories over Clarion and Mercyhurst. Pastorek, a graduate of Bishop McCort High School, scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and made two steals to help the Crimson Hawks get off to a 2-0 start in the PSAC West and extended their winning streak to three games overall. In a 72-65 win over Clarion on Wednesday, Pastorek converted a 3-point play with 1:05 left to give IUP a 67-65 lead and then pulled down a defensive rebound which led to a pair of free throws by Eryn Withers that secured the victory. Pastorek finished the game with six points and five rebounds. Three days later, Pastorek scored 10 points and had three rebounds in a 58-53 win at Mercyhurst in the opener of a three-game road trip. Her layup with 47 seconds left gave the Crimson Hawks a 52-50 lead after an earlier jumper capped an 18-5 run that turned a 12-point deficit into a 44-43 lead. Pastorek missed the first six games of the season with a broken bone in her foot but has played in each of the past eight contests. She is averaging 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest while shooting 48.6 percent from the floor (17 of 35). She also has eight steals and four blocked shots. In addition to her 10 points versus Mercyhurst, Pastorek also reached double figures with 12 versus Washington Adventist and 10 versus Cheyney. She also had a season-high six rebounds in a victory over the Wolves that started IUP's current winning streak. The Crimson Hawks are 9-5 overall and play at Lock Haven on Wednesday and Gannon on Saturday before returning home to face California on January 27 at 5:30. |
