Sarah Pastorek has earned her second PSAC West Freshman of the Week award after turning in the best performance of her young career in a division win at Slippery Rock on Saturday. Pastorek scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her first career double-double in the 65-51 victory over the Rock. She made 9 of 11 field goal attempts and 7 of 11 from the free throw line while adding three steals and an assist. Pastorek put in 20 points in the second half including every IUP point in a 13-6 run that turned a three-point lead into a 60-50 cushion with two minutes remaining. Eight of those points came in a 1:49 stretch and included a pair of 3-point plays, the second of which capped the decisive run. Earlier in the week versus California, Pastorek had seven points and set a personal best in rebounds with nine, a mark she would better three days later. Prior to last week, her season high was 13 points versus Lock Haven on January 10. Pastorek missed the first six games of the season with a broken bone in her foot but has come on strong with the beginning of PSAC West play three weeks ago. The Bishop McCort graduate has reached double figures in three of the past five games and is averaging 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds in the six division contests. Overall this season, Pastorek has played in 12 games off the bench and is averaging 7.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game and has made 37 of 64 field goal attempts for a .578 shooting percentage. IUP is 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC West and finish the first half of conference play Wednesday at 5:30 when Edinboro visits Memorial Field House. |
