IUP forward Sarah Pastorek has been selected the PSAC West Freshman of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks after turning in a pair of 20-point performances in victories over Edinboro and Clarion. Pastorek, a graduate of Bishop McCort High School, averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while adding six steals, five assists and four blocked shots. She made 52 percent of her field goal attempts (13 of 25) and 81 percent from the free throw line (17 of 21). In an 81-55 home win over Edinboro, Pastorek scored 22 points, including 16 in the second half, and also had nine rebounds and blocked three shots. She then scored 14 of her 21 points after intermission to help the Crimson Hawks rally from an 18-point deficit for an 84-83 win at Clarion. Pastorek had eight rebounds, four assists and four steals versus the Golden Eagles. Pastorek has reached the 20-point mark in all three games of IUP's current winning streak, which began with a 65-51 win at Slippery Rock in which she had her first career double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Pastorek is averaging 13.9 points and 6.7 rebounds in eight PSAC West games. She has played in 14 games since returning from a broken bone in her foot and is third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game and second in rebounding with 5.2 per contest. Pastorek has made 50 of 89 shots for a team-best field goal percentage of .562. The Crimson Hawks are 13-7 overall and tied for second in the PSAC West with California with a 6-2 division mark. IUP plays home games this week versus Lock Haven on Wednesday and Mercyhurst on Saturday, with both games tipping off at 5:30. |
