Jahzinga Tracey has become the first IUP women's basketball player to earn All-America honors in consecutive years with her selection to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 10-woman team for the 2008-09 campaign. Tracey was also named to the Daktronics All-America second team by a vote of Division II sports information directors. Prior to last season, IUP had not had a women's basketball All-American since Cathy Torchia in 1993. Tracey finishes her IUP career as the most decorated women's basketball player in the nearly 40-year history of the program. Earlier this month she was named the PSAC West Player of the Year for the second time, earned her fourth berth on the all-conference squad and third on the first team and received her second PSAC tournament MVP award. The Des Moines, Iowa, native ranked among the PSAC leaders in five categories. She was third in the conference in field goal percentage (.566), fourth in rebounding (9.6) and steals (3.1), fifth in scoring (19.0) and 11th in blocked shots (1.0). Her 4.4 offensive rebounds per game was tops in the league. Tracey is currently eighth in the nation in field goal percentage, 26th in steals, 27th in scoring and 44th in rebounding. She finished the year with 609 points, the second-highest single season total in school history, and also holds the top spot with 612 in 2006-07 and third with 607 in 2007-08. She picked up her second PSAC tournament MVP trophy after averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds in wins over Gannon, West Chester and California as IUP won its third straight conference title. Tracey had 21 points and 13 rebounds in an overtime victory over the Vulcans in the championship game. Tracey has rewritten the IUP career record book, including school records in points (2,101), field goals made (889), field goals attempted (1,718), rebounds (1,092) and steals (378). Her 125 games played is tied with teammates Staci Heberling and Kylie Miller for the top spot. Tracey also ranks in the top 10 in scoring average (second, 16.8), rebounding average (fourth, 8.7), blocked shots (fourth, 99), field goal percentage (seventh, 51.7), free throws made (seventh, 275), free throws attempted (ninth, 401) and 3-point field goal percentage (10th, 32.0). Tracey also climbed her way to the top of the PSAC record book in several categories, finishing the season ranked sixth in league history in scoring, third in field goals made, fourth in steals and eighth in rebounds. IUP posted a record of 26-6, tied for the second most wins in school history, and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Atlantic Region tournament. The Crimson Hawks defeated Johnson C. Smith in the opening round before losing in overtime to Gannon. |
