The Crimson Hawks lost to PSAC West rival Shippensburg 3-0 Saturday afternoon at a frigid George P. Miller Stadium. The Red Raiders, ranked No. 2 in the Southern Region of the NCAA Division II poll, are 17-1 and have a 7-0 record in PSAC West division play. IUP fell to 5-8 overall and have a 5-3 record in conference play. The only way IUP can reach the PSAC playoffs is if Slippery Rock defeats Mercyhurst Tuesday. Despite holding Shippensburg to just three shots in the first half, the Red Raiders squeezed in a goal off a penalty corner with less than five minutes left before the break. Kristina Taylor scored all three Red Raider goals to post a hat trick for Shippensburg. Taylor struck again early in the second half, assisted by Ashley Taylor, to extend Shippensburg's lead to two, and again on a breakaway with less than seven minutes left in the game. Shannon Sullivan, Anouk Sickman and Jenna Humphreys each posted four shots for IUP. The Crimson Hawks will play their final regular season game against Bellarmine Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Miller Stadium. |
