IUP concluded its two-game trip to
Massachusetts on Tuesday with a 2-1 loss to second-ranked UMass-Lowell.
The Crimson Hawks (1-1) split their
opening two games of the season on the road after blanking Bentley, 4-0,
on Monday. IUP entered the game ranked fifth in the National Field
Hockey Coaches Association poll, and UMass-Lowell is ranked second.
Jaci Moulton scored goals in both halves,
including one with 3:06 expired after intermission that gave UMass-Lowell
a 2-0 lead. IUP cut its deficit in half when freshman Barbara Heemelaar
scored her first career goal off an assist from Liz Martini with 15:09
left in the game.
The Crimson Hawks had a chance to tie the
game at the end of regulation, but a penalty corner shot by Liz Marosky
was saved by Danielle Dodier with seven seconds left to preserve the win
for RiverHawks.
IUP finished with nine shots and UMass-Lowell
had seven. Lydia Dolly made three saves for the Crimson Hawks and
Dodier stopped five shots for the RiverHawks.
IUP plays its home opener on Saturday with
a 1 p.m. game against Merrimack at Miller Stadium.
