Freshman Jess Frantz scored all three IUP
goals to lead the Crimson Hawk field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over
host East Stroudsburg in their first PSAC game of the 2007 season.
IUP
won its third straight game, all coming in the past four days and each
by shutout, and improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC. The
Warriors fell to 2-2 and 0-1.
Frantz (pictured) entered the game with
one goal in the first four contests this season but matched that total
when she scored off an assist by Liz Martini with 5:25 remaining in the
first half.
Frantz added two more goals in the second
half, scoring with 10:46 gone after the break and again with 13:28 left
in the game. Sylvia Guerrieri and Wendy Strohl assisted on the two
second half tallies.
Lydia Dolly notched her fourth shutout of
the season, making five saves. Carolyn Kisling stopped 10 shots for
East Stroudsburg.
IUP stays on the road Saturday for a game
at Mansfield beginning at noon. The Crimson Hawks return home on
Tuesday for a 4 p.m. showdown against defending national champion
Bloomsburg.
IUP will be looking for a measure of
revenge against the Huskies, who defeated the Crimson Hawks in the NCAA
national semifinals last November.
