Liz Martini broke a scoreless tie with a
goal off a penalty corner with just 1:24 remaining in the game, giving
IUP a 1-0 victory over Mansfield in a PSAC field hockey contest on
Saturday.
The Crimson Hawks (5-1, 2-0 PSAC) have won
four in a row, with each coming by shutout. Martini’s goal was her
third of the season and came off an assist by Brittany Owens.
IUP
held a narrow 10-8 advantage in shots and a 9-8 edge in penalty
corners. Lydia Dolly (right) made four saves for the Crimson Hawks, and
Brianna DeLuca stopped seven shots for the Mounties, who suffered their
first loss and dropped to 4-1 and 1-1 in the PSAC.
IUP will host defending national champion
Bloomsburg on Tuesday at Miller Stadium beginning at 4 p.m. The Huskies
defeated the Crimson Hawks in the NCAA national semifinals last
November.
