The IUP defense held Shippensburg to just
five shots and Lydia Dolly stopped each one, leading the Crimson Hawks to
a 2-0 win over Shippensburg in a PSAC contest Tuesday at Miller Stadium.
The win was the third in a row for IUP,
and the third-ranked Crimson Hawks improved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in
the PSAC. Shippensburg, ranked sixth in the country, fell to 6-4
and 3-4.
IUP got the only goal it would need with
15:10 gone in the first half when Liz Martini converted a penalty stroke
for her 10th goal of the season.
It stayed a narrow one-goal lead until the
opening seven minutes of the second half when Jess Frantz scored her
eighth goal of the year, assisted by Liz Marosky.
Dolly, who has allowed only five goals in
11 games this season, posted her seventh shutout of the year. IUP
took 10 shots, and Shippensburg goalies Allie Rutland and Amanda Houser
made three saves each.
IUP continues its four-game homestand on
Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against East Stroudsburg.
