Sylvia Guerrieri and Liz Martini scored goals less
than three minutes apart early in the game, and the IUP defense made the
lead stand up in a 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday at Miller
Stadium.
The win was the fourth in a row for the Crimson
Hawks, who improved to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC. The
Warriors dropped to 4-7 and 2-6 in the conference.
IUP has won eight of its 10 games by shutout, and its
defense limited East Stroudsburg to only one shot in the entire game.
The Crimson Hawks took 11 shots and also held a 7-2 edge in penalty
strokes.
Guerrieri got IUP on the board with 5:53 gone in the
first half when she scored her second goal of the season. Just
2:27 later, Liz Martini tallied her team-leading 11th goal, and the
Crimson Hawks were never threatened.
Brittany Owens assisted on both IUP goals.
Lydia Dolly was not forced to make a save in goal for the Crimson Hawks
while Carolyn Kisling stopped two shots for East Stroudsburg. With
her eight shutouts, Dolly has a goals against average of 0.42.
IUP concludes its four-game homestand on Wednesday
when Mansfield visits Miller Stadium for a 4 p.m. contest.
